Post and Core BuildUp
1. Post and Core
After root canal treatment, if the tooth lacks sufficient structure to hold the final restoration, then either our doctors or your general dentist will place a post inside the tooth. The posts sole purpose is to retain the core build-up, which is needed to rebuild the adequate structure to hold the final restoration. There are two types of posts that we place; a stainless steel post or fiber-resin post.
2. Core Build-up
After root canal treatment, if there is sufficient tooth structure remaining, then either our doctors or your general dentist will need to place a core build-up inside the opening that was created to perform the root canal treatment. Teeth that have been diagnosed as a cracked tooth will generally have only a core build-up placed or if needed a special flexible post.
